Without The Block on the box Nine has taken an immediate hit. Last night it slipped to third place, and very nearly fell into fourth.
Seven Network won the night with 31.5% followed by TEN on 21.3%, Nine 21.0%, ABC 19.7% and SBS 6.6%. But Nine’s primary channel did indeed land in fourth place behind ABC1.
Revenge (1.45m) was the night’s top show. Next for Seven were Seven News (1.36m), Today Tonight (1.23m), The Amazing Race Australia (1.1m), Home and Away (979,000), Body of Proof (769,000) and Deal or No Deal (666,000).
MasterChef Australia looks set to reap the Reality benefits of The Block having left the building. Last night it pulled 1.4m viewers, topped every demo and helped the network land second place overall. As it picks up the pace in its final month MasterChef should gather steam for TEN. The show also nearly doubled the next best for TEN which was Last Man Standing (749,000). TEN News was 746,000, NCIS was 664,000, The Project 6pm was 494,000 and The Finder was 392,000.
Without The Block, Nine had a tough night but Nine News held at 1.34m while ACA was 1.14m. Big Bang was almost half the numbers The Block used to attract at 785,000 / 771,000. Hot Seat won with 771,000, but Tricky Business had a tricky time with 558,000. CSI: Miami at 313,000 was out of contention. Nine already has big problems with Mondays.
ABC News (1.04m) did well for ABC1 then Australian Story (1.02m), Four Corners (855,000), Media Watch (732,000), 7:30 (727,000) and Q & A (721,000).
SBS pulled a good share as the Tour de France takes effect. Mythbusters was 269,000, Tour de France was 223,000 and Man vs Wild was 216,000.
On multichannels ABC2’s Olivia led the night with 303,000 while Neighbours inexplicably slipped to 263,000. Is it possible some viewers had been indulging in a Neighbours / Block combo early evenings and now that habit is broken?
